The client feedback
All of the feedback given by the client was useful for me in the production of my magazine. This is
because his points were very valid in order for me to make it more successful. Upon reflection, there were no points that will not help with my development, instead I will be taking everything on board to develop.
The client asked me if there were a growing number of rock venues in North London. My geographical and market research suggested that there was in fact a growing number of rock genre venues. Some of these venues include 'Dingwall's', 'Camden Assembly' and 'The Fiddlers Elbow'.
I did my research on many websites and was able to find the venues along with the bands and artists that perform there.
His most helpful point for me was about my target audience. Although I felt like the rock genre was more masculine, he suggested I open up to women too by placing a woman on the front cover of my magazine. This would be a controversial move to take, however clever too, as it would completely take the gender bias thoughts out of the magazine, which would make it ethically positive. Furthermore, it would be a USP and it would differentiate myself from the other magazines such as classic rock. This would possibly result in even more sales than I would have received if I only targeted males.
Therefore for the production of my magazine, I intend to include an article on the front cover of a female rock artist, to avoid any ethical issues I may incur.
My pre-production would have to change to include female artists on the front. For example, the creation of my visualisation diagram would be different to how I did my mock up - as previously I had not included any female rock artists. Of course other documents such as a mood board or mind map would slightly affected by the change as I would have to incorporate female connotations too.
My pre-production would be affected by this decision I am making, as I do not know any female rock artists, however I do know many male ones. For my pre-production, I would have to do more research on female artists and go out to meet or see them to understand what they do and where they play.
The client also told me that the way I presented it to be such a local magazine, and to keep it feeling live and real in this area was a strong positive. It is purely about the bands and artists in North London, therefore giving off a very live feeling vibe. This feedback has helped me to understand how I have gone about this in the right way, which in turn allows me to understand the feel that the client is looking for in this magazine. This could further suggest I should continue this theme for the rest of the magazine too.
Apart from the clients feedback after my pitch, there were other client consideration from the brief which I had to meet. Many of these requirements I met, such as the use of planning documentation and sample material (my mood board and visualisation diagram) and the production of original content which I carried out with bands that I know in North London. However, another client requirement was to edit my content to create. meaning. I have done this to an extent with the use of my visualisation diagram and my explaining of the magazine objectives, although I could improve this by researching more information into the bands so it has more of a real feel to it.
To reiterate from the start, I am unable to differentiate between the useful points and the points that will not help me with the development of my media product. This is because I only received one main point to reflect on my media product, and I am taking it on board, so it will affect the way my magazine is produced. Apart from this, there were no other improvements that the client suggested I should implement, therefore there are no points that I will not help me with my development of my media product.
